Little Jumpstarts: Life Hacks for Happiness

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Every day, life has the potential to become better than the day before. I remind myself this as the new year begins, that there are ways in our control to improve our daily lives and the lives of others.

Three thoughts based on last year:

Happiness Dwells in the Soul

In our day to day lives, we can choose to have an optimistic outlook based on what we have and the liveliness of our imagination, or we can be a disgruntled mass of protoplasm that is inherently grouchy looking at things we don’t have, and things that make us upset.

Of course, in sad and tragic circumstances, we all need to have compassion for ourselves and allow ourselves and give ourselves the time and emotional strength needed to heal. Much of 2021 has been devastating, and feelings of grief, despair, anxiety are all real.

But we must remind ourselves that when there are so many things in the world that can bring us down, let us not bring our own selves down.

Even when things do not go as planned, our circumstances do not define us, how we react to them does. This gives us more power and agency — we can control how we react, what we allow to take mind space in our lives.

Never start your day with regret

When you wake up, you can set your tone for yourself and your day.

Never start your day with regret.

Marvel in the little joys of the world, in the opportunity, in the challenges you will tackle today.

Treat each day with immense gratitude and give yourself the well-deserved break of not letting previous disappointments take over your entire day.

Commit to change For a very long time, I’ve wanted to become healthier and more fit but I always struggled and became extremely disheartened.

Then, one day, I decided to just commit to a mechanism that was slightly working for me — and not to get dissuaded by anything. I told myself I’d try intermittent fasting for a month and if it didn’t work, I’d change.

This helped me because oftentimes when you want to change, we get lost in the “grass is greener on the other side” complex.

But sometimes, you find the way that works and you commit to it.

For me, intermittent fasting has been working and it gets easier day by day. I share this story as a gentle reminder that every small step matters.

Would love to hear from you about tips that work for you! Please share as comments to this article. Starting a coversation is the first step...
